Swahili Orthodox Chants & Teachings

Ili kwa nia moja tuungame: Baba, Mwana na Roho Mtakatifu; Utatu wa asili moja, na asiyetengana.

Sunday Exapostilarion in Swahili (Revised) ‘Tujikusanye pamoja na Mitume mlimani’

#RevisedSectionsExplained::

* In some Swahili liturgical texts, the last section of the Theotokion states; kwa Jina la Baba, na la Mwana, na la Roho Mtakatifu…. The repetition of ‘la’ makes all the difference for it divides the undivided Trinity. It is also grammatically wrong to say; ‘kwa jina la Baba, na la Mwana na la Roho Mtakatifu….’ – If this was the case, then ‘jina’ must be pluralized to ‘majina’ due to the independence of the subjects. Theologically, Trinity is one and should always be treated so.

*In all Swahili texts, a common mistake is republished; ‘Twakutukuza Ee Bikira’. We only glorify the Trinitarian God, no mortal is worthy of glorification. ‘Kutukuza’ is to glorify and thus not applicable for the Holy Theotokos for she’s a mortal but magnified above all human for her contribution in the incarnation of the God-Man. ‘Tunakukuza’ is the right word for magnification and the correct one for this matter.

God bless you as we make the relevant changes in our holy services, thus adding meaning to every prayer and hymn hence meaningful prayers and supplications.
