It’s early morning, before sunrise,
I’m at your grave with many tears and heaviness of heart
And many questions to which there are no answers.
Why did you make such a difficult decision?

In the village every one is weeping:
Truly, child, how are you dead and it was not through accident or illness?
But one morning, a big cloud of grief came upon the village:
at so-and-so’s house, there is disaster.

CHORUS:
Why did you kill yourself? Why did you hang yourself?
You made an irrevocable decision to destroy your soul.
The village is weeping; your mother is ill;
Your sisters and brothers have lost hope.

You were fired from your job and you lost hope;
You thought the whole world hated you, you made an irrevocable decision.
And you didn’t talk to anyone or express what you were feeling.
Those were just thoughts; dear child, you would still be alive.

When your mother received the news about her first born,
she collapsed right there, and illness found a way in.
When your sisters and brothers learned of your death,
their studies were interrupted because you were their hope.

CHORUS:
Why did you kill yourself? Why did you hang yourself?
You made an irrevocable decision to destroy your soul.
The village is weeping; your mother is ill;
Your sisters and brothers have lost hope.

Our deepest grief is where you are now
Perhaps you’re struggling because God hates a murderer.
There’s nothing we can say because you’ve gone
To the land of the dead. Lord, have mercy on him.

You who are alive today, God has given you a gift
and you are the only one who knows your tomorrow.
Don’t despise yourself, and don’t put yourself down.
Hold on through prayer, and move forward in faith.

Brother, don’t kill yourself. Wait on God.
Job waited and his glory was restored.
Sister, don’t kill yourself. Wait on God.
Hannah was patient, and she was blessed with Samuel.

If Mordecai had despised himself,
He would not have been exalted, and Herman would have rejoiced.

So do not despise yourself, and do not despair
Hold on through prayer, and move forward in faith.
